At my new school district we have 8 weeks to go before the end of the school. I know many of us, teachers, are looking forward to summer, we are ready to leave behind the winter blues but spring fever in the classroom is at an all-time-high!
I personally love April. Not only because it is my son’s birthday month, but also because this is the time of the year when I start to reflect a lot on my teaching practice this past year. I start to make plans for what I will do over the summer to get ready for the next school year, and dream about the changes I want to make happen when September rolls around.
I am a planner, and because I plan, I feel confident when the new year comes. Therefore I can handle other back-to-school unexpected challenges. So here are 3 steps that you can take today and will pay off tomorrow (or once September rolls around).
Reflect
As you think back on this past year, consider writing down your successes first. You have many more of them than you realize. You will draw from these successes to repeat them again next year and improve in other areas.
Plan strategically
Summer should definitely be time to rejuvenate, but you can also use this time to get a head of the game. Using your reflection thoughts, create a list of things that you’d like to improve and actionable steps to get there. Be specific on those actionable steps and don’t over do it.
Work the plan
As you book your vacations, take trips and sign up for professional development opportunities, make sure you take an opportunity to add to your calendar time in which you will work on the actionable steps that you outlined before.
To help you get a head start I am sharing with you my FREE Reflective Journal. I hope you enjoy it.
Let me know how these steps work for you!
